Video Editing

Pinnacle Systems miroMOTION DC30 plus is anon-linear digital video editing and capture solution for the Mac OS. The miroMOTION DC30 plus supports Apple's QuickTime 3.0, and comes bundled with Adobe Premiere 4.2.1, which can be upgraded for free to version 5.0. The miroMOTION DC30 plus supports capture rates as high as eight megabytes per second (compared to three megabyte per second for the DC30) and hardware acceleration is supported during "make movie" and "preview" modes in Adobe's Premiere, reducing drawing and rendering times.

The miroMOTION DC30 plus processes full NTSC, PAL and SECAM resolutions at full frame and field rates with square pixels and supports CCIR 601 rectangular pixels, NTSC, PAL and SECAM for broadcast-compatible video. PAL and SECAM formats are only supported by versions sold outside the United States. The board offers 4:2:2 YUV TrueColor support and Motion-JPEG compression up to 2.2:1. Lip-synching is improved with on-board audio support. Audio is CD-quality, 16-bit stereo at a 44.1 kHz sampling rate. Support for both S-video (S-VHS, Hi8) and composite video (VHS, Video8) are standard. The miroMOTION DC30 plus is compatible with Pinnacle's DV300 (their digital video solution.)

The board is available now at an estimated retail price of $999 (US). (www.pinnaclesys.com)

Pinnacle Systems DC50 capture card offers similar specs to the DC30plus, but it includes a breakout box with XLR and RCA inputs and outputs for audio, as well as Component, S-Video and Composite video inputs/outputs. The DC50 also provides genlock input and output and a capture rate of up to 7 MB/second.
Costing $1995, the product includes Adobe Premiere and After Effects.

The DC50 accelerates Premiere effects, as does the DC30.

Reeltime $4995 (US) provides real time effects in Premiere (it actually replaces the effects in Premiere with it's own collection of accelerated effects.) ReelTime NITRO is a sub $10,000 real-time, dual-stream, non-linear editing system with both 2D and 3D special effects. Adobes' Premiere will be the first video-editing tool bundled with the product.

ReelTime NITRO offers data rates over 13 MBps on each stream and provides real-time 2D and 3D transitions, as well as real-time chroma, luma, linear keying, and titling. Component, composite, and Y/C analog input/output interfaces are standard. Optional interfaces include CCIR 601 serial digital, and DV/1394.

For a limited time, ReelTime NITRO customers who register their product will receive a free copy of the company's Deko character generator Adobe Premiere plug-in. Pricing starts at $8,995 (US/Asia)

Play Incorporated has shipped an update to it's video production system Trinity 1.1. Trinity provides a live D1 production switcher, on-line editor, real-time 3D digital warping video effects, character generator, paint, compositing, and animation system, virtual sets, chroma keyer, and dual-channel still store in a single box. Complete Trinity systems start at around $7,000. New features include:

  • ClipMem 1.1 allows users to grab short non-compressed D1 video clips from live or tape sources, and store these on the PC hard drive. These clips can then be composited, rotoscoped, and modified in Panamation, and then played back in real-time using the Switcher or Preditor.
  • Trinity 1.1's Preditor editing system contains many new features such as fully automatic A/X roll and A/V roll, simplified audio cross-fades, and looping timelines.
  • Panamation 1.1 adds true 3D perspective corner matching, allowing for easy, fast compositing of one clip into another, all at non-compressed D1 quality.

The 1.1 software upgrade is currently available free of charge to all Trinity owners from their local dealer.
